BOAZ, Ala. (WHNT) ? Vandalism was not the type of activity parks and recreation officials intend for kids to do at the Boaz Youth Sports Complex.
?We are a service for the city, trying to supply athletic events and things for our children and for our adults also,? director E.R. Brown said.
He said vandals took paint normally used for marking sidelines on baseball and soccer fields, and put profanities and obscene images on walls and floors.
The culprits dumped the remaining paint on a truck and slashed all six of its tires.
Brown said this is the second time in three months and third time in the past year someone cut the fence to the maintenance facility and took a city vehicle.
Chief of Police Terry Davis said teens were the culprits when it happened in August, and more juveniles are suspected in this weekend?s incident.
?Looks like teenagers, and they did at least $10,000 worth of damage to all the vehicles and the shop over there,? Davis said.
Just like in August, multiple surveillance cameras caught the theft and vandalism on tape.
?On the last break in, the police department were able to determine who it was within a couple of days, and I?m hoping that takes place this time also,? Brown said.
He thinks insurance will cover everything, but if not,?they?ll have to pull from another part of the parks and recreation budget; hurting those who want to play the right way.
Davis has a message for those who don?t:
?You?re going to get caught.?
He said the?vandals face multiple felonies including burglary, theft, and criminal mischief, and will not receive a break if they?re juveniles.
?If they think that ?we?re under a certain age, nothing?s going to happen to us,? well, it might have used to have been like that but it?s not any more, and we?re planning on prosecuting them to the fullest extent of the law,? Chief Davis said.
The vandals from the August break-in remain in custody due to a history of offenses.
